How to Use POP3/IMAP Email

If you are familiar with adding a new email account to your mail client, here are the details you will need for setting up your POP3 or IMAP account.

Key Information:

  1. Domain Name: The domain associated with your email service (e.g., yourdomain.com).
  2. Account Name: Your full email address (e.g., yourname@yourdomain.com).
  3. Password: The password for your email account. Ensure "My Server Requires Authentication" is enabled, and use the same login credentials as your POP3/IMAP account.
  4. Incoming Mail Server: Typically yourdomain.com or mail.yourdomain.com.
  5. Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): Similar to the incoming server, usually yourdomain.com or mail.yourdomain.com.

Common Ports:

  • SMTP:
    • Port 25 (Default)
    • Port 587 (If ISP blocks Port 25)
    • Port 465 (SSL)
  • POP3:
    • Port 110 (Default)
    • Port 995 (SSL)
  • IMAP:
    • Port 143 (Default)
    • Port 993 (SSL)

Adding POP3/IMAP Accounts to Email Clients:

Microsoft Outlook:

  1. Go to File > Add Account.
  2. Enter your email address, select IMAP or POP3, and input your credentials.
  3. Manually configure the server settings if needed (refer to the server details above).
  4. Follow the prompts to complete the setup.

Mozilla Thunderbird:

  1. Open Thunderbird and select Options > Account Settings > Add Mail Account.
  2. Enter your email details and let Thunderbird auto-detect settings, or manually input the server details.
  3. Click Done to finalize.

For Mobile Devices:

Android:

  1. Open your mail app and navigate to Add Account.
  2. Choose IMAP for better synchronization.
  3. Enter your email, password, and server settings as provided.
  4. Complete the setup and adjust sync preferences.

iPhone:

  1. Go to Settings > Mail > Add Account.
  2. Select IMAP and input your email and server details.
  3. Choose what to sync and finish the setup.

In most cases, your email will sync within minutes, but certain configurations may require up to 48 hours.
